Cool Animal Photos: American Bald Eagles

Below are an amazing series of cool animal photos of two American bald eagles. They were sent to me via an e-mail. I have no idea who took them, when they were taken, or where. The photographer just happened to be in the perfect spot to witness and photograph what transpired. The story being told in the captions above each picture are the photographers own words, describing  the photographer’s experience. They are once in a lifetime shots.

The little duck watches as the bald eagle speeds straight at him at over 40 mph.

With perfect timing the duck always dove and escaped. Then he would pop back up to the surface. This was repeated over and over. I was worried the duck would tire and that would be the end of him.

A second bald eagle joins the attack!! The duck kept diving “just in time”.

After several minutes of frustration, the bald eagles started attacking each other. They soon began to dive vertically, level out, and attack at each other at a full speed game of “chicken”. Sometimes they would bank away, other times they would come together and tear at each other with their talons.

A terrible miscalculation!! The luckiest shot of my life catches this over 100 mph head-on collision between two Bald Eagles.

American Bald Eagles #6

One bald eagle stayed aloft and flew away, but the other lies motionless in a crumbled heap in the water. The lucky duck survives to fight another day.

American Bald Eagles #7

It’s sad to watch a bald eagle drown. He wiggled, flapped, struggled, mostly underwater. He finally got his head above water and then with great difficulty, managed to become airborne. To my astonishment, the bald eagle flew straight at me. And it was the most wretched, unstable bird flight I have ever seen!!

The bedraggled bald eagle circled me once, then lit a top a nearby fir tree. He had a six-foot wingspan and looked mighty angry. I was concerned I would be his next target, but he just sat and stared at me. Then I wondered if he would topple to the ground as he sat and dried his feathers.

My half-hour wait was rewarded with this marvelous sight! He flew away almost as good as new. As I watched him, it came to me that this beleaguered bald eagle symbolized America in it’s current trials. May America recover as well!!
