Kids Say The Darndest Things
Over the Thanksgiving Holiday I was fortunate enough to have all four of my daughters and their families around to help me celebrate. As you may have read in last week’s post, #1 Best Way To Decorate A Christmas Tree, I have all my Christmas decorations up by Thanksgiving to help set a more festive holiday atmosphere for my grandkids. Daughter #3 and her children were around on Wednesday. Her oldest daughter Alexis, who is five years old, helped me put my Christmas Village together. We got the boxes out and she was helping unpack everything when my daughter started snapping pictures. Alexis, who seems to never run out of one liners, went into full show-off mode. She was sitting on the floor taking pieces of the village out of the box and handing them to me when she looks up at her mom, extends her arm, raises her thumb, and declares this a “thumbs up day”. Well ,we put the buildings, along with Santa’s workshop, where we thought they should go. Put my old Lionel Electric train set together. Placed the ginger bread village where the train would circle it. Of course we had to take a few minutes to untangle all the cords and plug-ins that went with each building. It seems that no matter how careful you are packing electrical cords or Christmas lights, when you unpack the following year, they are always a tangled mess. We finally got everything exactly the way we wanted it, had everything plugged in and ready to go, flipped the switch, all the lights lit up, and it looked great, but the train wouldn’t run. We worked on it a little but still couldn’t make it go. After awhile we gave up. All in all though, we spent a great couple hours together, Alexis handing me stuff, smiling and chirping away the whole time. When we were done, even though the train wouldn’t run, she still said our Christmas Village had “much awesomeness”. But it was later in the weekend when everyone came back for Thanksgiving dinner that she delivered her coup de gras. She comes through the door, walks up to me and asks if I had the train set running yet. When I informed her that it still wasn’t working, she put her hands on her hips, gave me that look that only a five year old can muster up, and said, “You should get my daddy to help. He can fix anything!” Touche, Alexis, Touche!!…..Out of the mouths of babes…

Best Post Yet!! Sometimes kids imaginations can run wild and you must sift through the make believe for that facts, but for some reason I think Alexis speaks the sole truth and I believe every word of it. Love reading every day. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Alexis’s Dad
I’m sure she believes she speaks the truth. I know I believed her.
